George Harold (Hal) Hanlin is a member (partner) of Callison Tighe & Robinson, LLC. Hal was born in Augusta, Georgia, on October 4, 1959. He was admitted to the South Carolina bar in 1989 and to the U.S. District Court, District of South Carolina in 1990.
Hal was educated in the public schools of Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from Lower Richland High School in 1977. He holds degrees from Furman University (B.S. 1981, cum laude) and from The University of South Carolina School of Law (J.D. 1989), where he was a Pupil in the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court, Justice of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Service Fraternity, a member of the Moot Court Bar, captain of the Craven Moot Court Team, and a member of The Order of Barristers. He earned his LL.M. degree (in taxation) in 2002 from New York University School of Law.
Hal is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Richland County Bar Association and the Columbia Tax Study Group. He practices in the Wealth Management Area, which includes Estate and Tax Planning, Probate Administration, Business and Corporate Planning and Business Transactions (formations, mergers and acquisitions, spinoffs). Hal is a frequent speaker at seminars for lawyers and accountants in his areas of practice. In January, 2008, he spoke at the South Carolina Bar Convention to the labor and employment law section on the tax effects of employment discrimination settlements.
Hal is an Eagle Scout and currently serves as Community Open Land Trust Board Chairman, and as a Sunday School teacher at Washington Street United Methodist Church, where he has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He and Dottie have two sons, Austin and Daniel.
